Privacy Policy

Short version: We collect only what we need to run the platform. We never sell your personal information or mobile number to anyone. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.
1. Who we are
PlateLocal LLC is a veteran-owned food marketplace that connects home chefs with local diners. We are incorporated in Texas and headquartered in San Antonio, TX. References to "PlateLocal," "we," "us," or "our" in this policy refer to PlateLocal LLC.

2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated by your use of the platform.
Account information:
- Name, email address, and password when you create an account
- Phone number (if you choose to verify via SMS)
- Profile photo (if you choose to upload one)
- City and state of residence
- Delivery address (diners only)
- Cuisine type and bio (chefs only)
Verification information:
- Phone number used for SMS verification — stored as verified/not verified only
- Government ID images submitted for identity verification — processed by Stripe Identity and deleted within 24 hours. We never store ID images on our own servers.
- Certification documents uploaded by chefs (food handler permits, inspection reports) — stored securely in Supabase Storage, accessible only to PlateLocal staff and the uploading chef
Transaction information:
- Order history, items ordered, amounts paid
- Payment method details — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers, CVVs, or full payment details.
- Delivery address per order — shared only with the chef and DoorDash Drive for delivery purposes
Usage information:
- Pages and features accessed within the platform
- Device type and operating system (for app compatibility)
- General location (city level) to show relevant chefs
3. SMS messaging and mobile numbers
📱 SMS / Text Message Policy
We will never sell, share, or rent your mobile phone number to any third party for their marketing purposes. Your mobile number is used solely to operate the PlateLocal platform.
By providing your phone number and opting in to SMS, you consent to receive text messages from PlateLocal including: order status updates, account verification codes, and service notifications about your area. Message frequency varies — typically no more than 4 messages per month outside of active orders.
Message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier and plan.
To opt out of SMS messages at any time, reply STOP to any PlateLocal text. To get help, reply HELP. To re-subscribe after opting out, reply START or text PLATELOCAL to our number.
SMS opt-out does not delete your PlateLocal account. You will continue to receive critical account messages (such as password reset emails) through email.
4. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account
- To connect diners with home chefs in their area
- To process orders and payments through Stripe
- To dispatch deliveries through DoorDash Drive
- To send order confirmations, receipts, and status updates
- To verify phone numbers and government IDs for account security
- To review and approve chef credentials and certifications
- To improve the platform and fix issues
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information to train AI models. We do not sell your data to advertisers. We do not build advertising profiles.
5. How we share your information
We share your information only as necessary to operate the platform:
- Stripe — processes all payments. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
- DoorDash Drive — receives the diner's delivery address and order details to dispatch a driver. DoorDash's privacy policy governs their data handling.
- Twilio — sends SMS verification codes and order notifications. Your phone number is transmitted to Twilio solely for message delivery.
- Stripe Identity — processes government ID verification. ID images are handled by Stripe and deleted within 24 hours.
- Supabase — hosts our database and file storage. Data is stored in US-based servers with encryption at rest.
- Resend — delivers transactional emails. Your email address is shared with Resend only for delivery purposes.
We do not share your information with any other third parties for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose.
6. Data retention
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active
- Government ID images are deleted within 24 hours of upload regardless of verification outcome
- Order history is retained for 3 years for tax and accounting purposes
- If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information in your account
- Delete your account and associated personal data
- Opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format

8. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted data storage, Row Level Security on our database to ensure users can only access their own data, and access controls limiting which PlateLocal staff can view sensitive information. No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at [email protected].
9. Children's privacy
PlateLocal is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify users by email if changes are material. Continued use of PlateLocal after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
